Obtaining a travel visa for entry to Thailand is a simple and hassle free process. American and Canadian (as well as many other western countries) passport holders are not required to apply for a visa prior to entering the Kingdom. Persons holding these passports are granted a tourist visa by an immigration officer upon arrival. This tourist visa allows the visitor to remain within the country for 30 days. However, if you plan on staying in the Kingdom for longer than 30 days, there are other options;

1) Apply for a tourist visa at a Thai embassy or consulate in your country of residence. A single entry 60 day tourist visa extendable by 30 days within Thailand and is sufficient for most visitors.

2) After you have stayed the 30 day period granted on arrival, leave the country (for any amount of time) and return to extend your stay another 30 days.

Important -- Every person traveling must bear a passport valid for six months from the planned date of travel.
